From Farm to Table: The Journey of Tony’s Ethically Raised Turkeys
At Tony’s Market, we take pride in the quality and care behind our products—especially our ethically raised turkeys.
Recently, our buyers Stefan and Alec took a trip to Minnesota to meet Max, a fifth-generation turkey farmer from Northern Pride. This cooperative, located in Thief River Falls, MN, includes 25 dedicated growers rooted in both tradition and innovation.
Max greeted our team at his feed mixing facility, a modest yet bustling spot near Pelican Rapids. He hand-blends feed from local Minnesota corn and soybeans. This feed is enriched with vitamins and amino acids essential for healthy growth. Additionally, Max works with a nutritionist to customize the feed for each life stage—from chicks to fully grown birds. His dedication to quality is clear in every step.
During the visit, Stefan and Alec toured one of Max’s barns, nestled among the scenic farmlands of Minnesota. The barn’s design includes natural airflow, elevated feeders, and constant access to fresh water. This setup creates a clean, comfortable environment for the turkeys to thrive.
Max raises Nicholas White Breasted turkeys, a breed well-suited for high-quality, antibiotic-free, and organic programs. His peaceful, low-stress environment supports both animal health and meat quality.
Max is fully committed to animal welfare. His farm follows Global Animal Partnership (GAP) standards, standards, which ensure humane treatment of every bird. In fact, he’s exploring natural alternatives like Lactobacillus to promote health without the need for vaccines. His forward-thinking approach to farming reflects a deep respect for animals and sustainability.
This visit reaffirmed Tony’s promise: to source from farmers who prioritize ethics, care, and quality. By supporting farmers like Max, we’re not just offering premium turkeys—we’re helping build a food system that values responsible farming. When you shop with Tony’s, you become part of that journey.
