Sustainable Seafood and Shell of a Deal

Posted on: February 16th, 2016

sustainable seafood at tony'sHere at Tony’s Market, February means seafood. We celebrate “Shell of a Deal” by offering our customers a variety deals on shellfish–we’ve got all the goodies, Alaskan King Crab Legs, Oysters, and more–as well as popular prepared items like our very own lobster mashed potatoes and shrimp jambalaya. On top of that, we’ve got a few fun things happening, including

1 – Oyster shucking lessons from Tony’s Meat/Seafood Buyer and Fish Monger Stefan Kosmicki! Join us at the Happy Canyon location in Castle Rock every Saturday in February from 11 am to 5 pm.

2 – Loads of great recipes…

3 – A promise to bring you sustainable seafood.

When choosing seafood, it is important to consider factors beyond freshness. Is the source local? Is the fishery sustainable? Is the fish grown or harvested in a responsible manner? What about feed and contaminants?

Tony’s Market goes out of its way to offer responsibly raised fish that doesn’t have a negative ecological impact, which means the fish are raised at low density and eat sustainable feeds.

Seafood is sustainable when it is farmed or caught using methods that guarantee the long-term health and stability of particular species, as well as the overall marine ecosystem. Did you know almost half the catch of commercial fishing is unintended and must be discarded?

Join Tony’s Market by choosing sustainable seafood both at home and when eating out. And stop by this month to take advantage of Shell of a Deal!
