Posted on: February 21st, 2017

Celebrate Mardi Gras all week long!

Few contemporary holidays have such an ancient and storied history as Mardi Gras, the favorite celebration of New Orleans. Celebrated as a multi-week extravaganza of parades, society balls, throw collecting contests, and King Cake, this holiday began eons ago as a pagan winter celebration and evolved through the years. Known also as Carnival and Fat Tuesday, Mardis Gras serves as a “last hurrah” before the religious season of Lent begins.

Stop by our markets and stock up on all your Mardi Gras favorites!

Our Deli will have popular items such as:

Shrimp Creole
Creole Fried Shrimp
Killer Shrimp
Cajun Turkey Pot Pie
Blackened Pork Tenderloin
Krab Cakes
Cajun Red Bean Soup
Chicken and Sausage Gumbo

Don’t forget the King Cake!

This mardi gras tradition centers around a very colorful cake, with a small plastic baby baked inside. Each person takes a piece of cake hoping to find the plastic baby inside. The recipient of the plastic baby is “crowned” King or Queen for the day, and is obligated to host the following year’s party, as well as supply the King Cake!
